There are many things to take into consideration before you are ready to place your order. You will first want to make a list of the people you plan to send the Graduation Invitation or Graduation Announcement to. This will help you to avoid a shortage of invitations. After you have the quantity you need, you will want to make sure you have all the correct information regarding the actual Graduation. You will need the place and the time of the Graduation. When choosing a verse, you will want the wording of your Invitation or Announcement to be written in a way that meets the requirements of the school. Some schools only allow a few family members to attend, where other schools allow you to invite as many people as you like. You may want to consider sending out an announcement verses an invitation if your school has a limit. An invitation invites them to attend and an announcement contains information that informs them that the event is going to happen or it has already happened.
One of the great advantages of ordering your own personalized Graduation Invitations or Graduation Announcements is the ability to order your Graduation Announcements or Invitations and include your name as part of the printed verse. This will give your invitation a more personalized appearance. You have the option of choosing different ink colors as well as customizing your wording. If you choose to have your name printed in the verse, you do not necessarily need to order name cards. Some students like to give these away, however you would not need them for your actual Announcement or Invitation.

Not everyone could manage a stagecoach. The stagecoach driver was held in higher esteem when on the summit of the Sierra than was the millionaire statesman who might be riding beside him.
While most stage drivers were sober, at least while on duty, nearly all were fond of an occasional “eye opener.” A good driver was the captain of his craft. He was feared by his timid passengers, awed by stable boys, and was the trusty agent of his employer.
The seat next to the driver, weather permitting, was the preferred seat of the men passengers. But this was one seat that was reserved, and it was not gotten by simply being the first to hop on the left front wheel rim and climbing into the box.
If the driver didn’t want the person who took the seat there, he would firmly order him down, and then enjoy the passenger’s discomfiture for the next ten miles.
To sit in the driver’s seat, one proceeded very much in the manner of securing an appointment to a high office. He went to the source of authorityabove the driver himselfto the superintendent and even to the president of the company.
Charlie Parkhurst was one of the more skillful stagecoach drivers, not only in California, but throughout the west. He was variously called “One-eyed” or “Cockeyed” Charlie, because he had lost an eye when kicked by a horse. For 20 years, he drove stagecoach in California.
Twice Charlie was held up. The first time, he was forced to throw down his strongbox because he was unarmed. The second time, he was prepared.
When a road agent ordered the stage to stop and commanded Charlie to throw down its strongbox, Parkhurst leveled a shotgun blast into the chest of the outlaw, whipped his horses into a full gallop, and left the bandit in the road.
One-eyed Charlie was known as one of the toughest, roughest, and the most daring of stagecoach drivers. Like most drivers, he was proud of his skill in the extremely difficult job as “whip.” Proper handling of the horses and the great coaches was an art that required much practice, experience, and not the least, courage.
Whips received high salaries for the times, sometimes as much as $125 a month, plus room and board.
“How in the world can you see your way through this dust?” one passenger asked Charlie.
“Smell it. Fact is,” Charlie replied, “I’ve traveled over these mountains so often I can tell where the road is by the sound of the wheels. When they rattle, I’m on hard ground; when they don’t rattle I gen’r'lly look over the side to see where she’s agoing.”
Yet, little was really known about Charlie Parkhurst before or after he came to California. It wasn’t until his body was prepared for burial that his true secret was discovered.
Charlotte “Charlie” Parkhurst was a woman. One doctor claimed that at some point in her life, she had been a mother.
Unknowingly, Parkhurst could claim a national first. After voting on Election Day, November 3, 1868, Charlie was probably the first woman to cast a ballot in any election. It wasn’t until 52 years later that the right to vote was guaranteed to women by the nineteenth amendment.
All stagecoach drivers, including Charlie, considered their whips worth their weight in gold. Drivers considered their whips a badge of honor.
Some drivers would as soon be caught without their pants as without their whips. Many of the whips used by the stage drivers were fine works of art, generally ornamented with handcrafted silver ferules girdling a handle made of hickory. Many of these whips are prized museum pieces today.
Whips were never sold, loaned, borrowed, or traded. In his book, “Stagecoach Days in Santa Barbara County, Walker A. Tompkins wrote, “Whips were considered a part of the driver, who kept the lashes well-oiled and as pliable as “a snake in the sun.”
Most stagecoach whips had buckskin lashes, usually from 11 to 12 feet in length, attached to a five-foot hickory shaft. The lashes were 10 feet too short to reach the lead team, which was controlled by reining.
Some rare drivers did carry a “six-horse whip” with a 22-foot lash, but these were mainly for circus and rodeo appearances, and considered too unwieldy for practical use.
The driver took his whip with him when off duty, and always hung it up. He never rested it in a corner for fear of warping the stock. Neither did he wrap the lash around the handle for fear of curling the thongs.
Stagecoach drivers were scornful of the way they were depicted in the movies. The top-grade stagecoach drivers used cracking of the whip sparingly. These drivers were concerned that the “pistol-shot” sounds made by the whips would only startle their passengers out of their naps or, worse yet, spook their teams.
Roads had to be built at public expense before stagecoaches were given a route. Some were little more than ox-cart tracks linking the various ranchos. Even the El Camino Real, the storied “King’s Highway”, was little more than a foot trail.
A tale is told about stage driver Whispering George Cooper. He got his name because of his loud bellow, which was said could be heard for miles, even against a wind, while he pushed his team up a treacherous pass.
At one point, Whispering George needed to repair a broken single tree that had developed a bad split. He scoured the stage for a bit of rope or a scrap of baling wire, to make the repair.
At that moment, a rattlesnake slithering across the road in front of them spooked his team. George killed the snake, which measured five feet or more in length. A passenger commented how much the snake resembled a rope.
“By gawd, that’s what I’ll use it for!” exclaimed George. He wrapped the dead snake around the single tree and knotted it into place. It worked, holding the damaged single tree together until it reached a relay station.
The term “stagecoach” came about in medieval Europe, when public coach travel was the only way one could get from one point to another without walking.
Trips were generally made in easy stages because of bad roads and the lack of overnight lodgings along the way. Hence, the term “stage” coach.
Alton Pryor has been a writer for magazines, newspapers, and wire services. He worked for United Press International in their Sacramento Bureau, handling both printed press as well as radio news. He traveled the state as a field editor for California Farmer Magazine for 27 years. He is now the author of 10 books, primarily on California and western history. Many students have been purchasing custom essays online and this has recently caused a great deal of controversy in the education system. The aim of this article is to describe the transition of the traditional “essay banks” to what are known as “custom essay sites” and the further progression to “personalised essay sites”, and to outline the common grounds under which the use of these services are deemed to be perfectly legitimate and reasonable.
The traditional essay banks that still exist today are purveyors of pre-written essays that allow students to ramble through them and find an essay that they can use to benefit their studies. There are many problems associated with the use of essay banks, for instance not only do they seldom provide the relevant material to the student, but they are not unique and therefore they fail to culminate the required research for the customer. This means that one would have to spend hours searching the essay banks (often having to purchase the right to view numerous essays) in order to achieve a reasonable amount of research to refer to. Not only is this extremely time consuming, but it could often prove very expensive, with students spending a great deal of time and money only to end up with more than few vague, poor quality essays to help them with their studies.
The many problems associated with essay banks led to birth of the custom essay sites. These sites set out to solve the problems common to essay banks by providing essays that are written to the customers’ question. This enabled students to purchase a model answer specific to their requirements without having to search the internet for hours. This eventually had its adverse effects on the market, with many custom essay sites using this as an opportunity to use their custom essay service to build up their own essay banks, as well as using their existing essay banks to create custom research from. Customers were essentially buying an often wholly plagiarised piece taken from, or soon to appear on an essay bank. They were essentially paying for a piece of research that would soon benefit other students, therefore taking away any competitive advantages that the model answer would have granted them.
The next phase was the innovative creation of the “personalised essay service”. These services provide a piece of research that is custom written to the exact requirements of the customer, with a guaranteed level such as a guaranteed First Class or 2:1 standard. These essays are scanned for plagiarism, ensuring each piece of work is unique, furthermore they will not appear on an essay bank or database for a fair period of time - 4 years or more, and will never be resold.
Now for the speculation - are these personalised essay sites aimed to encourage cheating. Having looked at the main websites in this industry, I have examined the grounds under which their service is intended and should be used. Under the FAQ section of one of the main providers, it was fairly argued “Our aim is to produce essays and research materials in order to aid and inspire your topic or subject area. We deliver model answers to the questions that our customers submit to us- that means the research materials that you receive would guarantee a 2:1 or 1st class in a like for like exam. The work that our researchers produce for you is for your own reference, to benefit your final piece, however it is not intended for you to pass off as your own. We rely on our customers to use our service sensibly.” (www.essaysforstudents.com) Furthermore, they retain the copyright for all their research pieces and if used sensibly, their service is merely offering substantial support to customers, just as a private tutor would. They do not condone cheating in any form and act to discourage it.

What is the eternal student? Well quite literally it is one who studies forever. You might say that everyone is in fact an eternal student. But I am referring to that type of person who is a permanent resident in a university. The perks of staying in college are numerous- namely you don’t have to pay for your life. Some of the lucky are able to con parents into paying for their stay at institutes of higher education, but one can occasionally trick the government and other scholarship organizations into paying. There are several types of eternal students ranging from the truly dedicated to the wild partier.
Most often when one refers to an eternal student the automatic assumption is that of the Truly Dedicated Eternal Student. This is often a student who has chosen random and rather bizarre course work. You most often find these students among Classical Studies or History students. The reason is simple. No one cares about those majors except the people in them. Who really needs to major in Sanskrit anymore? It’s a five thousand year old dead language. So students of these types of majors can always find something old to study and claim the need to study that fully before they move into “the real world”. These students can always find something else to study because the stuff has been around so darn long. Since no one cares about these studies anymore these students are free to hide is the sunlight-deprived coroners of dusty libraries and remain free from responsibility. The major difficulty in being a truly Dedicated Eternal Student is to lie convincingly enough so that the parents, friends, the university, and financial supporters all believe that the student needs to remain ensconced in their studies.
The Multiple Degrees Eternal Student is a nefarious schemer. This student is the only eternal student to ever actually earn a degree. And not only do they earn one degree, but they earn several. The primary goal of this type of student is to have more letters after their name than in their name. They will earn a BA and a BS and an MA, MS, MPH, JD, MBA, MD, PhD, DrPH, and on and on and on. In some ways this Eternal Student is the most talented and most conniving of all Eternal Students. Not only must they posses the intelligence and talent for earning these many degrees but they must convince others that they actually need these degrees. The danger, however, in being a Multiple Degrees eternal student is that, unlike other eternal students, these individuals have actually completed acceptable levels of education. At some point their financial support will revolt due to the immense financial burden these multiple degrees impose and the student is generally told to go ahead and utilize their degrees. The best counterattack to this type of difficulty is to be educated out of any possible job and so, after a brief interval, return to higher education.
Another study bound eternal student is the Cutting Edge Eternal Student. These students study material on the cutting edge of technology. Often the world assumes these are the students who are first to venture from the confines of college life. In this the world is sorely mistaken. Most major advances in technology are made by doddering old men and women who made the mistake of leaving college and have been trying to keep up ever since. True there are your Walt Disney’s and Bill Gate, the rare examples of young people achieving great technological successes. But those individuals are few and far between. The Cutting Edge Eternal Student insists on learning the latest new technology before entering the workforce, so as to be “well prepared”. Cleverly enough, by the time they finish learning the last skill there will be new material to be studied.
The only problem with study bound eternal students is that they almost always have enough or more than enough credits to complete their degree. Parents or government officials who notice this often require the said student to graduate, putting an end to their free ride. The Multiple Minors Eternal Student manages to dodge these questions of graduation by never achieving enough credits to qualify as a major in any given subject. These students cleverly craft their schedules so as to always be without the correct requirements at the appropriate time to have continuous course study. Because of these “scheduling mistakes” the students must then take alternate classes where they “discover” new interests and the same scheduling problem arises. The most common excuse from such students is that they are using college to “expand their horizons”. Despite appearing to have a lack of foresight these students are very conscientious of timing in courses. The only difficulty with The Multiple Minor Eternal Student is that after a period of fifteen or so years lines of study become restricted. So these students can most often be found petitioning for new majors and can be thanked for many of the more curious majors found in colleges today.
The Lack of Core Eternal Student is another student who fails to meet the prerequisites of graduation. These students do, however, study all the course work required of their major(s). These students refrain from graduating by failing to meet certain prerequisites of the core curriculum. They are different from The Multiple Minors Eternal Student is that their goal is to receive all credits BUT the core course whereas The Multiple Minor Eternal Student’s goal is to meet ONLY the core course requirements. Obviously The Lack of Core Eternal Student can only be found at schools with a core curriculum, preferably an extensive one. The difficulty with this method of study is that the student must work hard in their major to counter the effects of their “failed” core courses in order to not be kicked out of the school. These students are most easily found supporting the need for a “liberal arts education”; also know as a ridiculously extensive and hardly useful core class requirement.
The Eternal Transfer Student also manages their education so as to avoid gaining any real credit form a given school. Often these students take a “leave of absence” to “explore” other schools. In that way they fool the schools that they attend into not giving them credit while still remaining in the college lifestyle. The Eternal Transfer Student must be very astute like The Multiple Minors Eternal Student and plan the course and schools they attend. If they are very good they can successfully fail to obtain a degree from dozens of universities. The key to this failure is choosing courses at a given school that do not transfer to another as anything more than elective credit. A subset of the Eternal Transfer Student is the Eternal Study Abroad Student, who is merely a transfer student of foreign universities. This specialized Eternal Transfer Student is slightly more difficult to maintain, due to the immense expense of foreign travel. Another common pitfall of the Study Abroad Student is to unwisely fall in love with a foreign city or person and to permanently move abroad, therefore putting to end their “studies”.
The last and most infamous Eternal Student is simply called The Eternal Party Animal. The name speaks for itself. These students are the students who always manage to miss class because they are sleeping off a hangover. These students require very gullible PARENTS. The government cannot be conned into supporting The Party Animal’s habits for long. The most common fault among The Party Animal Students is carelessness. They are so busy partying they fail to pass enough classes to remain in school. Therefore a smart Party Animal will only attend a school that is easy and abundant with fraternities and sororities. Schools that provide that atmosphere are more likely to be lenient towards The Party Animal and let him or her thrive. The Greek System is also very supportive of the Party Animal in providing instant friends, abundant booze, and term papers. A warning to those considering The Party Animal life: most former Party Animals die of depression, cirrhosis, or venereal diseases.
The privilege of Eternal Studentdom is not to be taken lightly. At no other point in your life is it a) acceptable that you not know what you are doing b) normal for people to give you excessive amounts of money and c) expected that you will do dumb things. If you doubt what I say is true just look at all the adults trying to go back to college- it can’t be done.

The importance of an MBA degree in today’s times cannot be ruled
out. But before we start talking about the values of an MBA
degree would it not be proper for us to spare a moment’s thought
about what this MBA is all about? Well MBA is a post-graduate
degree in business communication and stands for Masters of
Business Administration. This is an extremely popular course,
one which has plenty of takers through out the world. It is not
for nothing that it is considered as a major step towards a
successful carrer in business management. An MBA degree can
prove to be extremely beneficial to all those who are working in
the capacity of executives and managers.
An MBA degree aims to arm its students with the requisite
knowledge in both theory and practice which stands to benefit
them in managerial and administrative positions. It’s a misnomer
to think that an MBA degeree is only useful in business
establishments, instead it can help people get a job in public
and government sector as well. Indeed an MBA degree is looked
upon with much reverence and honor acrooss the world.
The only thing bad about any MBA course is that you have to
spend plenty of hours in attending the classes. Not any more
though, for keeping in mind the tight and busy schedule of
modern times many universities have come up with MBA courses
which can be pursued online. This is one of the greatest gifts
of the Internet era, one which is bound to help millions who
want to do a particular course but could not do so for lack of
time.
Thanks to online courses they can very easily realise their
dream. Only thing which is required is caution for there are
several universities which claim to offer an MBA course and you
have to assertain their authenticity before finally taking the
plunge. Also determine whether a degree from that university is
well regarded or not. If certain precaution is exercised before
one gets himself enrolled in any of the online courses then one
is sure to reap rich rewards
Given below are the name of couple of universities which run
online MBA courses.
Tulane University: Tulane University offers MBA
Master Certificate Track which is the most comprehensive
development series and covers the most critical subject areas;
that of business and management. The course here is developed
with the sole intention of fitting in the modern times which
faces accute crisis of time for even the most imporant aspects
of life.
Regis University: The sole purpose with which
Regis University started its online MBA program was to help
professionals eche out a powerful carrer in today’s
ultra-competitive times which are surrounded by business
environment which is constantly and rapidly changing. Top most
university that Regis is, it is only natural that it would
provide education coupled with skills and knowledge which would
enable its students to perform exceptionaly within their
organizations.

Landlords and rehabbers take notice - you may soon be focused on the new concepts of “Virtual Real Estate Investing“. What is meant by “Virtual Real Estate Investing” ranges from online games like SecondLife (where real profit can be made) to the use of internet technologies to make normal real estate investors more profitable.
In order to figure out the truth of the matter, I sought out Bryan Ellis, whose experience in the fledgling industry is truly impressive.
Ellis says he adopted the term “virtual real estate investing” sometime before Y2K after he realized that making money online is conceptually very similar to making money with physical real estate.
An example of the similar nature of “virtual” and “physical” real estate Bryan Ellis likes to point out is the methods of making a profit from domain names compared to physical real estate. “There’s a huge difference between a website and a piece of real estate, but the ways you can profit from them are similar: ‘flipping’, rental/leasing, advertising sales, etc…all of these apply to both markets” he states.
The similarities really are obvious. Consider: A valuable piece of real estate is valuable largely due to the interest that other people have in that specific location. Likewise, if you own a desirable domain name, others will find value in it because it serves their purposes. Regardless of the type of asset, you can sell or lease or use any number of strategies to turn the assets into cash.
In our next installment of this series on virtual real estate investing., Bryan Ellis will share the internet analogies to the physical concept of real estate development.

With the unstoppable globalization of economy, careers and culture are breaking barriers and making a borderless world. Nowhere is this more apparent than in careers. Internet has literally become the window to the world. As information and opportunities abound, the choice in careers is no longer limited to a region, but spread wide across the world. This has opened the field for newer pastures and wide range of job opportunities. Consequently, the need for learning foreign languages has become necessary. Besides, in the highly competitive business world that we are in, knowing additional languages invariably gives you the added edge.
But learning a foreign language has its own subtle intricacies. The pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar and the use of proper syntax are just some of the major problems confronting any learner. However, there are some sound techniques for mastering a language. Ideally they are best done using memory techniques.
One of the basic methods is to associate the foreign word with a similar sounding word in the language you are very fluent in. For e,g., the French word for rug/carpet is ‘tapis’. You can associate the word with tap in English. Similarly, the equivalent of grump in French is ‘grogon’. By associating ‘grogon’ with the word groggy in English, which means sleepy and tired, you will be able to remember the French word.
Another memory technique is to use images for improving your foreign vocabulary. So for the above two words in French - ‘tapis’ and ‘grogon’, you can imagine taps being open and water running on a rug or carpet, and use the image to reinforce the meaning of the word ‘tapis’. In the same way, you can use a grumpy looking sleepy face to remember ‘grogon’ to convey the meaning grumpy. The image of drooping eyelids and mouth can be visualized to remember ‘grogon’ as grumpy.
Yet another well-known technique is using town language mnemonics. Since the basic vocabulary of a language pertains to everyday things - things that you will find in a town, village or city - you can use the different areas and objects to link the images and the corresponding foreign words. You can associate all the food-related words by visualizing a familiar supermarket and substituting the images and the words of food items sold there with the corresponding foreign language words.
Likewise, all foreign words concerning animals and birds can be remembered by imagining a zoo, and linking the images of different animals and birds in the zoo to the corresponding foreign words. In this way, you can cover different working zones of a town, village or city such as library, park, shopping mall, etc., and master the related foreign words associated with each sphere of activities. This way you will reinforce your foreign language vocabulary thoroughly.
Incidentally, Tony Buzan in his book ‘Using your Memory’ lists 100 basic words that are elementary to any language learning. This could be used to learn the primary words of the foreign language.
In all these methods, it would be obvious that memory has a chief role to play in learning a language, more so for increasing your vocabulary. You need to be familiar with the words in order to use them effectively. Since Mind Mapping technique was born out of the need for enhancing memory, Mind Maps serve as an indispensable memory tool. Indeed Mind Mapping is the most ideal method for improving your memory. Using Mind Maps to learn foreign language is a highly useful and proven technique for mastering a foreign language. Many people are using Mind Maps as a vital tool for learning languages.
As the Mind Map technique is based on information processing abilities of the brain, Mind Maps have a crucial role as a memory-enhancing process. And deploying this technique for mastering foreign language can only speed up the process of learning. The simplicity of the technique and the efficacy of its process, gives Mind Maps not just a clear edge but in elevating it as a time-tested method for mastering any language.

Examinations are a regular part of the school, college and university environment, which is considered to be a flexible form of learning and teaching process that aims at investigation of a student’s knowledge of a particular subject.
However, nothing makes students gloomier than the prospect of exams. Even the word examination itself makes students shudder. There are no doubts that for the majority of students examinations are something like death, which has the unpleasant inevitability to be faced sooner or later. Exam inevitability often creates a great deal of tension, and can become a cause of procrastination, work block, anxiety, and panic attacks, especially, when students feel overloaded by the amount of work they are required to accomplish.
To say nothing of countless hours of sitting for examinations that is accompanied by cramming, sleepless nights, and very often turns out to be very distressing and debilitating. Indeed, different people deal with exams in different ways. Some people may seem to be able to handle with the pressure; others get agitated, anxious, bad-tempered, and can even become seriously ill and depressed.
However, despite all this, one thing holds really true: examination period is challengeable, but it is not the end of the world.
Remember that you should be responsible for your own learning. Hence, your examination success is in your hands, and in many respects it depends on your ability to focus on active learning, to schedule your time sensibly, and to organize your working place properly.
So don’t take exams lightly, putting off revision on the very last day, and entrusting your examination grades to your lucky chance, after all exams is not an appropriate case to check how lucky you are. Whilst you don’t want to be caught off guard and confused on the spur of the moment, as leaving revision too late is an excellent recipe for stress and anxiety.
Be sure to stick to these simple and effective examination techniques, which will help you pass your examinations with flying colours. Remember that with careful planning and preparation exams can become nothing more than a question and answer session.
* Elaborate your revision program in good time before your exams
Organize your time wisely. Be sure to allocate time for revision, relaxing and enjoying yourself sensibly. Be realistic about time that you can spend revising. Bear in mind that you need a balance between your revision time and the rest of your life. You need rest, and variety. So try to break your workload down into manageable chunks, combining working periods with rest.
And what is the most important begin studying early, with an hour or two per day, increasing this time as exams approach.
* Plan how you will use your time during your revision period
Your plan should include what, when and how you are going to prepare for your examination. Try to produce a day-by-day revision timetable.
List all the topics you’re going to cover during your revision process, make up your mind what order to learn them in, and how much time you can manage on each topic. Be realistic about your time, and always remember about your deadlines. A good revision strategy is to set priorities. Evaluate the importance of each block of information that you’re going to revise, think it over what topics are compulsory for you to revise, and what subjects you already know.
* Involve in active learning
Reading is a passive way of learning, while writing is an active studying technique, which is considered to be highly productive. Plunge into the text you’re reading, and ask yourself: “What is the most important to remember from this section?” Make notes while you read and underline the key concepts in the text.
Mix easy and difficult topics, interesting and dull while you revise. Try to work in a comfortable environment, to remove any distractions, and to find out where you work best. Don’t forget to interrupt your study time with planned study breaks.
* Make your revision process effective
Don’t learn parrot fashion. Researches have shown that a person recalls meaningful information better and easier. That’s why you should:
1) Associate newly learnt concepts with what you already know. As you are reading try to link what you are studying with what you already know, with something that is meaningful to you. 2) Elaborate upon new information with your own examples. 3) Revise material in small chunks; don’t try to cover all the information in one sitting. 4) Information is memorized better when it is represented in an organized framework. Group information into categories; write an outline or a summary. 5) Use as many visual aids as possible; make a practical use of drawings, tables, graphs extensively in your revision process. 6) People are more likely to remember things that go in some certain sequence, so that one thing triggers another element.
* Organize your working place sensibly
Many students are fully versed in importance of time management in the process of preparation for their exams; however, quite a few is acquainted with the importance of organising their working places wisely.
Be sure to divide your room into two areas: your working space that can be near your desk or table with papers, books, photocopies on it, all in all, everything you need for studying, and a place for relaxation, where you can look aside from studying, taking a nap, watching TV, or listening to music. Get used to indulge in work only in your working area, and to switch off in your relaxation zone. Physical separation of your working place from your relaxation area will make it easer for you to do it mentally.
Bear in mind that doing well in exams not only depends on your knowledge, but also on how good you are at revising and handling the actual exam.
One can say that the exam is a lottery, where a large proportion of success depends on your lucky chance. Though, luck can let us down in the most unsuitable moment. So, I don’t offer you to count on it. The most reliable way to pass an exam is a thorough and profound preparation.
Remember that an exam is a kind of a contest between you and your examiner, where you have to come out a winner.

This article will launch my new series in the Why Study Math? category. This will be the start of a fascinating series which show that mathematics is more than just a pain in the neck; indeed these essays will permit a fascinating peek into the world of this curiously strange discipline. We start in the land of geometry, where shapes and figures and their many properties drive students to the breaking point of insanity. Each article will feature a specific aspect of a particular branch of mathematics, such as algebra, trigonometry, and calculus; and each will endeavor to shed some light on how these fields are used in the real world. So come on board and enjoy the ride.
In the field of geometry, particularly as pertains to the high school geometry course, a student is introduced for the first time to the wonderful world of mathematical proofs. Often times students will be scratching their heads wondering why in the world they would be learning things as proving two triangles congruent or about the different properties of shapes such as trapezoids, parallelograms, or even those solid figures called polyhedrons. What is not understood or even seen is that such shapes play a fundamental role in many areas of science and indeed nature.
For example, the helix structure–that winding pattern best typified by a spiral staircase–is the structure most abundant in nature. Watson and Crick, the scientists who won a Nobel Prize for their groundbreaking work with DNA, the genetic material responsible for heredity, showed that the very structure of the DNA molecule exhibited a double helix structure. Running a close second to the helix structure, we have those solids which are formed by regular pentagons and hexagons, those five and six sided figures. Because it is impossible to enclose space (in other words form a “polyhedron ball”) with just hexagons, it is necessary that pentagons be added to the mix. In fact 20 hexagons and 12 pentagons form the recipe for a nice type of polyhedron ball, which has come to be called a truncated icosahedron.
The soccer ball is the perfect real-life example of the truncated icosahedron. What is even more, many viruses–those potentially deadly nuisances–exhibit this structure. Viruses have outer shells called capsids that are often in the form of an icosahedron. And for those of you who are not familiar with chemistry, the eponymous buckey ball, is an organic molecule made mostly of carbon, which exhibits the soccer ball structure. In fact, chemists have now discovered a whole family of these “soccer-ball-like” molecules, which are called fullerenes. New and interesting discoveries are being made with these molecules and fascinating applications for their use in diverse fields as medicine and pharmacology are being researched.
Thus understanding geometry–shapes, figures, and their related properties–has profound implications for all of us. Just remember this the next time you go to fill a prescription for that drug which is going to kill that buckey-ball shaped virus that is wreaking havoc on your insides. For without understanding the very nature of the shapes of these viruses, chemists and pharmacologists would be at a loss in their attempt to battle these viral parasites.
