Old boys in business circles have always been the poster people for golf. Now more and more kids, including girls, are working to change that image. Approximately 10 million Americans alone from ages 5 to 17 have played golf at one point or another, according to data from the National Golf Foundation. As it were, golf is a game for all ages.
Children and novice adults alike may revel in the burgeoning number of golf courses with kid-friendly forward tees. Such tees are only as large as 1900rather than 2500yards, with special scorecards for good measure.
Kids who want to play golf should come with age-appropriate equipment. Out in the market nowadays are clubs with flexible shafts and lighter heads. Some shops have custom-fit clubs for children according to height and proficiency level. As children grow, the clubs become longer and heavier, their grips increasing in size at the same time.
Kids can never be too young for golf, if videos of Tiger Woods as a tiny tot were to let on. Parents may begin by taking young children to the driving range. There, adults can let their kids swing away, just long enough to sate their attention spans. As a precaution, adults should ascertain nobody is nearby when they themselves swing away. For safety reasons, adults should go to ranges with safety barriers around the tees.
Eventually the fledgling golfer would turn 7. Ideally, seven-year-olds warm easily to formal golf education. There are junior golfers’ clinics for these purposes.
In America, the Junior PGA Championship happens annually as one of the most prestigious junior golf events in the world. If anything, it is the one-way ticket to stardom for promising kiddies.

If you’re stuck with something you’d like help with and no one
else comes to mind, you might try a coach, and here’s why:
Coaching developed to fill a need that wasn’t being met.
Actually it developed to meet a number of needs that weren’t
being met, and it’s still evolving.
If there’s something you want to work on, I bet there’s a coach
who does it.
As the existing helping professions have grown and matured over
the past century, redefining themselves, drawing lines and
setting boundaries, there are still huge areas falling through
the cracks. At the same time, our society has been changing so
that formerly existing avenues for assistance and guidance have
disappeared.
I think of when I first moved to the town I live. My former
husband joined an established medical practice and we were
accepted immediately into that community. All I had to do was
pick up the phone and call one of the spouses when I needed a
repairman, doctor, dentist, or sports league for the kids. I
mean one that was good that I could trust. Trial and error I
could accomplish on my own.
The choices were smaller, but it was also word-of-mouth, the
surest way there is to assure satisfaction. “Word gets around,”
as they say. I have myself, from time-to-time said, “You may not
like his[her] personality, but I can assure you [s]he will do
good work.”
What I did not have, that I missed and was somewhat filled by
this occupational community, was a net of extended family with
older, more experienced, and available, relatives I could turn
to.
In the 00s, both of these may be missing from an individual’s
life. You may have moved far from family, and to a place where
you know few people. You may want advice, guidance, resources or
direction in areas that don’t fall within existing services such
as law, therapy or accounting.
One example is someone with ADHD. In some cases medication is
recommended, and also therapy, but at least one medical
association has come out in favor of coaching to fill in what’s
missing.
When you read articles about coaching, I’m sure you hear the
struggles to define the field. These will continue as it
evolves. Coaching began with two divisions - personal life and
business. (Sports coaching having long been in position). It has
since split into many different areas. Niches and specialties
are being formed that are all to the good of the public.
If you were seeking advice in a certain area, for instance, you
might be looking for someone with certain credentials (academic
or coaching or both), or you might want someone with direct
experience and success in that area. Now there are choices.
A quick look on a search engine or a coaching site will show you
the vast variety of coaching specialties. I challenge you next
time you have a dilemma you’d like consultation on, to “think
coaching.” Looking at the Top Tens at www.topten.org can also
give you an idea.
Under Personal Development Basic, you may find “The Top Ten
Things You Should Have in Your Personal Papers by the Time
You’re 30.”
Under Smart Choices, “The Top 10 Things the Wise Vacationer
Knows.” Under Money, “The Top Ten Things to do with Your Tax
Refund.” Under Life Skills, “The Top 10 Ways to Increase Your
Speed and Independence in Getting Information on the Internet.”
Under Recovery, “The Top Ten Ways to Stay Sober Over the
Holidays.” Under Emotional Healing, “The Top 10 Ways Managing
Your Emotions Can Save Your Life When You’re Facing Surgery.”
Under Marketing, “The Top Ten Mistakes Not to Make on Your
Website.”
Under Career, “The Top Ten Skills of Excellent CEOs.”
A coach can help you, and a well-connected coach can connect you
to someone else who can help you. I know coaches who teach
computer, train you for real estate sales, help you market on
the Internet, work with entrepreneurs, launch your ebook, are
successful breast cancer survivors, specialize in potty
training, teach emotional intelligence, know what to do about
in-laws, are relationship coaches, weight loss coaches, ADHD
coaches and bipolar coaches, are MFT licensed and work with
couples on their marriages, communication coaches, mentor new
coaches, work in multicultural issues, guide you in planning
your retirement and many other life skills and areas of personal
and professional development.
One of the best things about coaching is it lacks some of the
restraints of it’s distant cousins, therapy and teaching. For
instance, your coach is free to accompany you to a speaking
engagement to critique your style, or to a business meeting to
observe the interactions and give you invaluable feedback. He is
free to accompany you to court to observe your spouse in a child
custody case. He can also join you with your partner for a
business lunch and negotiation.
Coaches work in all areas of personal and professional life,
helping you develop in your many roles, to move forward, find
your strengths and capitalize on them, increase your emotional
intelligence, become more resilient, see yourself more clearly
and function more effectively. Just as importantly, your coach
can assist in those “mosquito bite” things that can really slow
your life down. I just found out in 4 days I have to have
surgery on my foot. My son lives 600 miles away. My best friend
is a lawyer and will be in Court that day.
Everyone I know works! You can’t take a cab home anymore, they
tell me, you must be “signed out” to someone. I have found
’someone’ - a friend in sales who is always out and about - but
had I not, I wouldn’t have hesitated to call my friend and coach
who lives here in town. A coach is just one more person “in your
corner” and there can hardly be too many of these! If she
couldn’t have helped me, I know she would’ve known a way around
this.
A coach can make your life easier. When you’re stuck, think
coaching. Pretty soon it will be the first thing you turn to!
Mentors in my Life: People who Inspired Me & Shaped me to who I
Am.
By Virginia Alexander
I have been asked many times to discuss and write on my
experience with mentors in my life. At a convention about 6
months ago, I was asked to please write an article on this
subject for a magazine, Kinda like inspiration for other women,
about the female mentors in my life, What hit me wrong is this :
Mentors are not one gender, some are not human. Who a mentor is:
any person, place or thing that inspires us. Here are the
inspirational prototypes that I was built from. I was asked why
I achieve what I do. After some thought and a list, here are my
top 3. A few fundamental factors I have instilled in my own
life, 1. Think before I speak. 2. Say what I mean in a
diplomatic manner 3. Do not accept abuse. Nuff said.
My first Mentor is a woman, Virginia Redigan; she is a
fashionista, with a personality that just memorizes you. She is
a major player in the beauty Industry in Florida. Virginia was
first a hair dresser then, a distributor of Nexxus products. She
has a company, LVW beauty supply. She was always gracious, put
together, willing to test or try new things. She was forefront
in fashion and Just a phone call away. Her son Luke and I were
very close for a long time. They were always just a phone call
away. I listened to everything eighter one of them said, how
they conducted themselves as well as their approach to business,
friendships and life. Luke is still there today with his wife
running the business, (Cecilia, born on the same birthdates as
his mom Virginia) A beautiful woman with business savvy and the
smarts to pull anything off. Why do I like them so much….They
are honest people who work hard, have no excuses, take care of
their own and still take the time to help others. What I keep as
perfect lessons from the Redigan family. Stay current in your
Industry & Look current. Be educated in what you are selling or
talking about Be the best you can be. Work hard and appreciate
what you have, where you came from and look where you are going.
Virginia & her family still own & run LVW Beauty supply in Coral
Springs Fl.
Carol Colette, an incredible woman, with all the grace, poise,
intelligence and savvy to achieve any thing in life. Carol
taught me about the fine art of entertaining, and presenting
myself properly. She is always dressed perfectly. Her home is
poetry in motion, a feast for the eyes! I learned a lot about
design from her. Even though she is not a designer, it is her
natural gift or talent. She is spiritual, believing that
everything happens for a reason and in the big picture
everything works out, persevere, and don’t hurt anyone along the
way is her motto, I follow that to this day. If anyone else can
do it, so can we, as long as it is right for us. Good advice.
Carol by far is one of my greatest mentors to this day. Carol
has had businesses that she has started from nothing, she works
very hard. She had a wonderful enchanted life. In my eyes, carol
is from Canada, she moved to the Bahamas as a teacher (a very
educated woman) she met her husband, moved to the states. Carol
is alive, always wide eyed and excited about everything, she can
make anyone feel special, always handles questions and answers
in a diplomatic manner. She is by far the one person who
inspires me the most. To see her handle any situation is
inspiration. She suggests rather than demands. She achieves
along with dreams, she applies a practical application to the
goal she is going after. Mind you she handles big business with
all the charm, grace and sophistication of Grace Kelly or Jackie
O. Carol is in the category of those women, had I known or met
them I am sure I would have liked them and been grateful to know
them as well.
What I retained from Carol Colette Always do your very best Do
it with Class Always dress your best, present yourself with
grace and dignity Read learn & ask. Get the right answers, don’t
stop till you do. Do not accept defeat, learn something from it.
Work hard Always act like a lady (She is a natural) keep the
childlike quality and amazment that is natural in life Carol
Colette Owns The Daytona Beach Inn, In Daytona Beach Fl. Plus is
in real estate. And only God knows what she will do next. All I
know is I love to watch her go!
Carol Rashid another Beauty professional, a woman of color who
is such an inspiration to me. One of the busiest women I have
ever met. We met on a movie set, I think in Daytona. She had the
makeup and beauty concessions for one of the largest TV shopping
networks around at the time. We became instant friends she
thinks I am a nut. (She’s right) Carol has insight and is an
inspiration; her Goal was to create a facility for women going
thru chemotherapy, to renew and recover. She was called to do
this business, come hell or high water. One of the most amazing
things about Carol and we have talked about this much: her
Business was based in a backward town, with people who were
afraid (that’s the way I put it) of first, people of color. 2.
Women in business. She over came all obstacles in her path, With
Grace and diplomacy. She is always a lady, always bright, always
an inspiration.
She is the goods, as we talk, she is always there, busy or not
to listen & talk things out, lend a hand or encouragment, with
her strong belief in Gods purpose for us, she just puts blinders
on and goes after what she wants. Carol has over come many
obstacles in her life, (none she created herself, by the way)
Carol owns Inner Vision Salon & Spa, Network Beauty solutions,
In Orlando Fl. Only God knows what she’ll do next…As she is
led so she does.
Rick lesser, is one more Fashion & Beauty professional. This is
the one person whose calling should be about writing a step by
step manual on “How to Be the Perfect Friend”. I don’t know how
he does it. Rick takes the time to listen, he never forgets, he
gets things done, he checks in with everyone on a daily basis.
If you want something done right ask a busy person. Well he is
it! I have known him for almost 20 years, He is a constant
source of inspiration, achievement and go get it ness. Rick
takes the time to talk things out. He always says what he means,
is careful how he says things: like he says,” I hate to have to
apologize,” we like a lot of my Mentors and people whom inspire
me are in the same business. We pass work around, products,
knowledge and love. Rick is the epitome of Friendship; I think
everyone should have a mentor like Rick; He is an Inspiration to
know and a Blessing to have. A True Friend is a Gift. He is one
of my most cherished gifts.
Rick Lesser is a stylist in Fort Lauderdale Fl. He has a product
company Faces & Follicles.
Others, that I look up to for inspiration, I don’t know them,
but what I have seen & heard is what I like:
Oprah. She is so educated, does the right thing with her money,
works hard and deserves everything she has…she has earned it
all. An inspiration to all women. Please God bring more Oprahs
out in the World!
Dr. Maya Angelou is a remarkable Woman of Grace and dignity.
Pure Harmony in Life, any more said would be absurd, she is like
perfection.
Barbara Taylor Bradford.. She writes what I see, how I see it.
Niki Joviani Poet, I feel what she writes
George Carlin he’s all about truth. Makes me smile
Big Mike, ThekidfromBrooklyn.com….he tells it like it is. I
bought a Louisville slugger. Just to remind myself that there
are people who I would like to use it on. besides he makes me
smile
Martha Stewart, she rocks, she rules the home & business. She
works hard and has earned what she has… Sparky the Dog, who is
always happy to see me, and is thankful for cheese.
Two varieties of the disease exist. It is necessary to know and look for signs and symptoms of diabetes. The first type of diabetes (also known as “type one”) is diagnosed before the completion of puberty. This disease is due to the body making insufficient insulin. Without that substance, sugar cannot be used for fuel.
Adult onset diabetes is also known as type two diabetes. This is far more common than type two diabetes. When this applies, one of two things have happened: either the body is not producing enough insulin, or the body’s cells do not possess enough receptors for aiding the insulin in its tasks toward breaking down blood sugar. Diabetes is a disease, and a serious one at that. However, there has been a lot of research toward diabetes, and diabetics can now look forward to long and fulfilling lives.
Insulin is the chemical that allows the glucose that’s formed in the digestive process to be absorbed by the body’s cells. If the insulin is not produced in sufficient quantities, the glucose builds up in the blood. This is what produces the symptoms for diabetes. Your cells lack nutrition and feel as though they’re starving and, as glucose levels rise, damage can occur to eyes, heart and kidneys.
Certain signs and symptoms of diabetes are not clearly evident, but frequent urination that smells very fruity due to high sugar levels is a very common one. Other signs and symptoms of diabetes are weight loss, blurry vision, fatigue, and excessive thirst.
A newly diagnosed diabetic needs to seek treatment. Type one diabetics, and some type two diabetics, will need to give themselves injections of insulin. Diabetics also need to be sure to have a balanced diet, and they also often need to eat on a schedule. Those diagnosed with diabetes must also be sure to exercise regularly, since exercise has been shown to help control blood sugar.

It is possible for small companies and individual business people to cut costs without sacrificing quality. Keep these 10 budgeting tips in mind when purchasing goods and services.
1.) Buy in bulk, but compare prices.
Sam’s Club and Costco cater to small businesses and have good deals on bulk-packaged items. Know the sale prices at discount retailers and grocers, though. Sometimes you can do better there.
2.) Travel Frugally.
With some flexibility you could save up to 75% or more when traveling. 50% is common. Search for air fair and hotels on discount sites such as Expedia.com, Travelocity.com, Hotels.com, and Priceline.com. At Priceline you can submit your own price. Don’t be intimidated if you get a message saying your bid is likely to be rejected because it is too low. Give it a shot anyway. Lowball bids are often accepted ($35 for a $139 room, for example).
3.) Look for closeouts / clearances.
Shop big retailer’s regional warehouse or clearance store, where they ship rejected or overstocked merchandise. The items are primary large-ticket, such as furniture and appliances, that have been damaged in shipping. Keep your break room/kitchen configuration in mind when shopping. Look for items dinged and dented on sides that will be against the wall or hidden by cabinets.
4.) Buy used vehicles.
As soon as a new car leaves the lot, it drops in value. Look for dealers that need to move inventory, individuals with cars coming off lease, and other unusual situations. If there is high demand for the vehicle you are looking for, try shopping outside of your immediate area, where demand may be lower.
5.) Purchase business wear from consignment and non-profit stores.
Shop at the better consignment stores that carry only new looking, brand name items. Also, try non-profit stores, such as Goodwill, for business casual attire. You not only get a good deal, you support charity as well.
6.) Shop around for the best price.
Combine Internet and “real world” shopping to save money. Before purchasing an item, research current sales and rebates in three ways: 1) Research local sales at ShoppingList.com, 2) Compare online prices at MySimon.com, and 3) Search individual Web sites such as Sam’s Club, Costco, and Wal-Mart. If you are purchasing items to resell, don’t forget to use your tax ID.
7.) Recycle and refill.
Come up with creative ways to save on office supplies.
Purchase ink refill kits. You can refill an ink cartridge for a fraction of the cost to buy new. Look for refill kits at your local office supply store or search for “Ink refill kits” in an online search engine.
Use both sides of the paper. Instead of throwing away paper, print drafts on both sides.
When printing out drafts to proofread, chose “draft quality” printing. It not only saves ink, but prints faster as well.
8.) Buy refurbished or previously used furniture and fixtures.
You can often get used and/or refurbished items at a price less than new. Search local online portals and business directories for companies that refurbish and sell business furniture. Also, if you know you are going to need replacements, keep an eye out for liquidations, auctions, and going out of business sales. Fixtures are often sold along with other inventory.
9.) Barter.
Look for bartering networks, where members help each other by trading goods or services. You can also approach businesses and freelancers on your own with a win-win proposition.
10.) Save on marketing costs.
Rather than outsource all your marketing to an agency, learn to complete some tasks in-house. Join marketing newsletters, purchase how-to guides, and read articles written especially for small businesses.
