Bonsai are shaped by trimming the branches or by wiring them into new positions.
You are dealing with living things, and you must be respectful of that. You will kill trees. This is a sad fact of the activity, especially as you start out. Commit yourself to understanding why every tree dies and what can be done to prevent it. Learn from your mistakes and do your best to prevent them in the future.
Every tree is different. Learn to care for a few different types of plants, and grow your collection from there.
How to Begin the Art of Bonsai
Remove the tree from the plastic pot by turning the pot upside down, tapping the bottom, and letting the tree slide out into your hand. The soil should not be too dry, so that the root ball remains intact. Gently scrape away the topsoil around the base of the tree, to expose the lower trunk (about one quarter to one half inch). Try not to break too many surface roots. First thing is to look at the roots of the tree and check to see if it gives the appearance of a strong foundation.
Cut off the bottom third of the soil and roots, and flatten out the remaining root mass. Prepare the bonsai pot by placing a piece of screen over each drainage hole, and pour a layer of potting soil into the bottom of the pot. Place the tree in the pot, pour in the remaining soil, and pack it firmly. Finally, submerge the bonsai, pot and all, in water, up to the base of the trunk, and let it sit in the water for a few minutes.
Interesting Bonsai Visual Effects
In bonsai, the rule of thirds states that the first (lowest and biggest) branch should be at about one third of the total height of the tree. It is the trunk that gives the tree its visual strength, and every effort should be made to have at least the bottom two-thirds of the height clear of branches at the front of the tree.
Next is checking the trunk. The shape of the trunk will basically determine the style you choose. In almost all cases, however, a thick base, which tapers gradually and gently to a thin apex, will make for a nice tree. Which style you prefer will depend on the movement of the trunk.
Look at the branching pattern. The lower branches should be thick while the upper ones should be thin. The branches should be laid out like the spokes of a wheel with some going to the back. This will give the tree depth when you look at it. No two branches should leave the trunk at the same level.
The handlebar effect is unnatural looking and, if left, will cause the trunk to swell at their level causing an ugly bulge in the trunk line. If your tree has such a fault you should, if a deciduous tree, remove one of the branches entirely. Try to avoid having branches spaced evenly down the trunk. Reduce the distance between the branches as you go toward the top of the tree.
Finally examine the plant to see if it is healthy. Be sure not to wire so tightly that you cut into the bark, or so loosely that you do not have support. Minor wire marks can sometimes add interest and show that the tree has been trained, giving branches character after several years. However, major wire marks are very ugly. To hide any marks that look unnatural you can strategically place foliage at intervals in front of the trunk, so that the trunk line is not completely visible.
It may be ten years (or longer) before your plant will actually be a bonsai. Don’t be discouraged by this, but think of it as part of the experience. Perhaps most importantly, understand that when you put a tree in a pot you are committing yourself to the care of that tree. You cannot simply ignore it or it will die. Bonsai is a responsibility as well as a hobby. If you practice it with care and patience, the rewards are tremendous.

Now there’s few words that I like more than consortium and portal; and that is just one of the exciting reasons why I’m getting all sorts of worked up for my university online degree. Are you thinking that I could engage in other activities that had some semblance of a connection with the words consortium and portal? I agree. But, I also want to get started on my career and don’t have the time to go to classes full time, because of my job.
The problem was that I have always been a little apprehensive of the programs that offered university online degrees. This is where my two favorite words come in. I can actually get my degree, online, by taking classes from major universities. Not simple institutions.
For example, If I used the Canadian Virtual University, or CVU, I have the option of taking classes from 13 established universities across Canada. There are several of these types of organizations, such as the Global University Alliance. This is a consortium of nine different major universities from the U.S., Britain, New Zealand, Australia, and the Netherlands. As you have probably gathered by now the Global University Alliance or CVU themselves have no classes to offer, but simply act as a portal for the major universities. This way your getting the benefits of a university online degree (classes at your own pace and convenience, yet still offering personalized attention), but also having the satisfaction that you’re not sacrificing a quality education.

Paralegal Schools offer many options to help you get formally trained as a professional paralegal.
Typically a paralegal school will offer an Associate’s Degree Program or a Certificate Program. Also you may find some paralegal schools that offer a Bachelor Degree or a Master Degree.
The Associate’s Degree will take around 2 years of study, the Certificate will only need a few months, while the Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees will require 4 years.
As a whole the job market now require some shape of formal training and diploma. Gone are the days where only some typing skills and a clean pair of shoes assured you a job.
In order to qualify for a Paralegal Certificate you need an Associate or a Bachelor’s degree, but some schools require only a high school diploma or a GED.
Also you may want to consider online paralegal schools. The online courses offer many advantages like schedule flexibility and reduced costs. Each course completed is credited towards the degree. A great advantage of online schools is that many will let you pay each course individually…
You may have already discovered that paralegal schools and online paralegal schools are very abundant to say the least. So I recommend that you take a special approach to select your own school and training. If you plan to study in a formal classroom versus an online paralegal school then obviously the physical location of the schools will help narrow the search, because you may prefer an institution that is close to your home. This step being taken I recommend that you analyze the current job market listings and that you note the training requirements for paralegal or legal assistants hiring. This will greatly help you select the amongst the school offerings and will almost guarantee you a strong position on your future job market.
Many job listings will ask for a Bachelor’s Degree and/or a Certificate and specialized experience and many Junior Paralegal jobs will require training and some general experience.
Note that most paralegal schools will help you get the required base of experience thru internships or externships with various field experience and hands-on training. Also in the case of a career change, a good portion of your actual experience may apply to one of the many specializations of this field. In most cases only a couple years of related experience will be required.
So if you plan a career change or if you want to qualify for an interesting career you may find that Paralegal Schools are the fast track to a really decent salary (40K to over 100K is the norm) and some neat extras like bonuses and a fair amount of independence on the job.

Most adults look back on their years of schooling either with a great amount of fondness or with relief that their days of learning have passed. Children, too, are usually either lovers or haters of school and everything that comes with it. As I moved up the education ladder from elementary school to junior high to high school and then to college, one of the only things that kept me excited to be in school was the textbooks. Crazy, I know, but for some reason there was nothing I looked forward to at the start of a new year more than receiving my textbooks for that year.
For me, textbooks were full of possibility. They symbolized everything exciting about the year ahead. Receiving my textbooks was like receiving a fresh start. I could forget about all of the hours of homework and toil from the previous year. My mind wandered to the year ahead and all that would happen during it. Most of my excitement surrounded the assurance that school meant spending time with friends, maybe even meeting new friends, and getting to stay after school for sports or other fun activities.
It is true that my love of textbooks had very little to do with the books themselves or even with the learning that would take place because of them. I was more excited about choosing how to decorate the mandatory covers that my private school teachers made us put on all of our textbooks each fall. Should I stick to something plain like the year before or could I somehow convince my mom that I needed, really needed, the newest, brightest covers for my textbooks? These were real questions that I had to answer as each fall rolled around.
Once I had received and decoratively covered all of my textbooks for any given year I would spend an evening or two just flipping through the pages of each one. I’m not sure why I did this every year. I guess at least a little bit of me was excited about the things the textbooks would teach me. I especially loved to look through my textbooks when they had been used by other students. Most of my classmates preferred brand new textbooks, but I preferred seeing the smudges and notes from years before me. I knew that at any time during the year when classes got boring (which they inevitably would) I could flip through my textbooks and let my mind wander about the students who had gone before me. What were they like? And did they hate math class as much as I did?
Maybe I was only fascinated with something as simple as textbooks because I was a child. I guess that makes it even more foolish for me to say that even now, many years outside of school, I miss my textbooks.

Online poker players not only compete for money, but for Card Player’s “Online Player of the Year” award. The winner in 2008 was Alex Kamberis, whose screen name is “AJKHoosier1.”
He was 22-years old when he was named the winner, and lives in Bloomington, Indiana in the U.S. The award is based on points accumulated for tournaments won and earnings achieved by the players. Alex took off early in 2008 by winning big in several re-buy tournaments. During the summer, he entered a Full Tilt tournament with a prize pool of $750,000 US and finished second to earn $134,895.
Kamberis also made numerous final online poker tables during the year, helping him to rack up even more points. His entry into a major online poker tournament with a $5,000+200 buy-in was instrumental in winning the award. There were 2,185 players, and a prize pool of over $10million US. Although he took several bad beats, he made it to the final table, and won third place, which put him way ahead of other OPOY contenders. This was his largest cash prize for the year, making up more than fifty percent of his total online earnings of $1.7+ million dollars.
Not only did he make substantial money, but he racked up 9,424 points along the way to win the title, and be named “Online Player of the Year” by Card Player Magazine. Congratulations to Alex!

Secret Tips For Negotiating Your Credit Card Debt
Most individuals believe that it is unimaginable for a individual to negotiate their credit card debt with a credit card company because the company is not interested in working out a deal with the individuals that obtain their credit cards. The truth is that some of these credit card companies may be prepared to talk to you and form out some kind of debt relief program for your debt because they would rather recover some of the money that you owe to them easily instead of having to pay someone to endlessly contact you about the debt and possibly not receive any payments from you at all. There are a number of different things you should hold in mind when seeking to negotiate your credit card debt and keeping these things in mind may help you a great deal in your pursuits.
The first thing that you need to keep in mind when attempting to negotiate credit card debt is to be honest about your situation when you are talking to the representative of the company you want to negotiate with. You would be dumbfounded at how easygoing some companies can be when a person has a legitimate hardship, such as the loss of a job, the loss of a spouse, or are medically unable to work for a period of time. Some credit card companies are now providing a type of credit card insurance to be able to suspend your payments for a period of time if any of these circumstances come about and interrupt your ability to make your payments because they have noticed that many of their customers go through these situations now and then.
Another thing to remember when negotiating your credit card debt is to be sure that you are talking with the proper personel that has the authority to aid you. A lot of times you may be speaking to a individual who does not have the authorization to negotiate your debt situation. Sometimes in this instance they try to differ you from achieving your goal by saying they can’t service you. Insist on speaking with someone in the company that can aid you, if neccesary try and find a local branch where you can speak to somebody in person.
Always remember to be polite and respectful when talking to your credit card company about negotiating your debt. It may be hard at times, but getting angry at them will only make things worse. Being respectful to those trying to help you is very critical for seeing any results. Remember, you want these people to help bring down your debt, not make things worse for you.

The American Civil War took place in 1861 to 1865 in the southern United States; also in eastern, central and southwestern regions. The outcome of this bloody civil battle was the defeat of the seceding CSA. The primary leaders in the War were the well known Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis. Both of these men were corageous leaders, and huge names of their time, as well as ours. Casualties of the war include:
Killed in Action: 110,100
Total dead Toll: 359,500
Wounded: 275,200
The war claimed more American lives than any other conflict in history, with approximately 560,000 total killed which at the time was a stagerring 1.78% of population and over 970,000 casualties which again is a staggering 3.09% of the population. Often times debated, the causes of the civil war, and even the name of the war itself, are still really left up in the air.
When Abraham Lincoln was elected in 1860 seven states existed: These states were: South Carolina (December 20, 1860), Mississippi (January 9, 1861), Florida (January 10, 1861),
Alabama (January 11, 1861), Georgia (January 19, 1861), Louisiana (January 26, 1861), and Texas (February 1, 1861). Lincoln was not even on the ballot in nine states in the South. Several Leaders from South Carolina had long been waiting for an event that might unite the South against the anti-slavery forces. As soon as the election returns were certain, a special South Carolina convention declared “that the Union now subsisting between South Carolina and other states under the name of the ‘United States of America’ is hereby dissolved.” By February 1, 1861, six more Southern states had seceded. As a result on February 7, the seven states adopted a provisional constitution for the Confederate States of America and established their capital at Montgomery, Alabama. On March 4, 1861, less than a month later, Abraham Lincoln was sworn in as President of the United States. He stated on this date that he had no intention to invade southern states, but would use force to maintain possession of federal property. The South, especially South Carolina, ignored this plea by Lincoln, and as a result on April 12, the South fired upon the Federal troops there were stationed at Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina. The firing continued until the troops surrendered. This significant event is what many feel was the start of the American Civial War.

If your cheerleading team needs funds to go on that special trip or maybe they need new uniforms then why not have a cheerleading fundraiser? This could prove to be very profitable and could get your team what they need. A cheerleading fundraiser can be fun for your team and it will give them the feeling that they are truly helping the cause.
There are many cheerleader fundraiser ideas you can choose from for your cheerleader fundraiser. You can put together a cookbook by gathering recipes from all the students, parents or the teachers and if you want a good place to sell them then try at the games that your cheerleaders attend. Get your cheerleaders to hold a cheerleading school for a day and charge for the lessons. Even the older ones can get in on this fun and your up front cost will be next to none if you can hold this at your school’s gym.
Another neat cheerleading fundraiser idea is to hold a raffle, which pays out 50/50. With this type of cheerleading fundraiser you sell tickets and the prize is 50% of all that is collected. You will still end up with a tidy profit. You could even ask for the PTA fundraising on this one. They would enjoy helping out.
Another way to have a cheerleading fundraiser is to set up an actual game between your cheerleaders and one of the teams. This can be fun for everyone and thoroughly enjoyed by the crowds. Everybody loves sports of any kind and this would go over very well without any up front cost. Another cheerleading fundraising ides is to have a rummage sale. Whenever your collecting for cheerleading fundraiser keep in mind to tell those that are collecting to always mention what the money will be used for and who is collecting it. Tell them to be polite when they collect. The sapphire, protector of the innocent, celestial guardian of truth, bringer of health and youth, symbol of the heavens and birthstone for the month of September, is in fact the same stone as the ruby, the mineral corundum.
The blue corundum, ranging in color from the lightest blue to deep blue and black, is the same stone as the ruby, the only difference being in the color. The choicest color is the soft velvety blue, approaching the cornflower in shade and exhibiting that color vividly by artificial as well as by natural light. The deeper-colored stones are known as male, and the light-colored ones as female sapphires. Although choice sapphires are rare, a much greater quantity of good and large stones are to be had than of rubies, and therefore the price of a large sapphire does not advance in the same proportion as the price of a large ruby.
The word “sapphire” which means blue is of the same form in nearly all the early tongues, thus showing that they were in use by the ancients. Sapphires are found in many parts of the world and are usually found in the same locality as the ruby. The largest number and finest quality of these stones come from Thailand and India, and are found and recovered in much the same way as the ruby.
The sapphire is next to the diamond in hardness and it is this quality that makes it impervious to wear and insures its sharp edges and corners against years of use. Like the ruby the value of the sapphire is determined by its color. The finest stones are a deep blue and the deeper the color the more highly it is prized if its translucency is not impaired. Although the sapphire with its many shades of blue is considered the most desirable stone, it is also found in other colors such as red, green, yellow and pink.
The Oriental emerald or green sapphire does not approach the beryl or true emerald in depth of color, but because of its superior hardness and brilliancy, added to its extreme rarity, it is the most valuable of green gems. The Oriental amethyst or purple sapphire sometimes reflects a red color by artificial light, and is valued highly as a gem stone; the common amethyst is softer, less brilliant, and loses by artificial light. The various other colored sapphires, such as yellow or Oriental topaz, light green or Oriental aquamarine, greenish-yellow or Oriental chrysolite, and aurora red or Oriental hyacinth, are all valuable as gem stones when they are pure, well cut, and have pronounced colorsin fact, the name Oriental is given to distinguish the corundums from the less valuable minerals of the same colors which they resemble, but which they greatly surpass in beauty and value because of their brilliancy and superior hardness.
Asterias or star stones are corundums of three different colors; the star sapphire proper is a grayish blue, the star ruby red, and the star topaz yellow. These stones are usually cut cabochon or convex, and display under the rays of the sun, or when exposed to one candle or other artificial light, a beautiful star with six points. This star is produced by foreign substances in the corundum, and the lapidary brings about the regular effect by cutting a pointed carbuncle so that the center of the star begins at the apex, and the six bright stripes radiate to the base of the stone. The bright lines of the star following the light move over the surface of the stone and produce a remarkable effect. These stones are amongst the most wonderful of mineral productions, and good specimens are very valuable. The corundum cat’s-eye, called Oriental girasol or sunstone, has a bluish, reddish, or yellowish reflection of light of a lighter shade than the stone itself, and which moves on the convex surface of the stone like the lines of a star stone.
To this day, sapphire is one of the most important members of the family of gems and is certainly one of the most favored by jewelry artisans worldwide. Consequently, there is more “hanky-panky” with treatments, alteration of color and various other techniques to disguise or improve flaws etc., than almost any other precious stone. Buyer beware of bargains that look “too good to be true”. Deal with reputable jewelers both online and offline. The sapphire is the birthstone for September.
