In this essay, I will examine the conflict experienced by Kateri Tekakwitha caused by her Indian culture and her subsequent conversion to Christianity. I will also examine the division from her fellow tribal members which resulted from her conversion.
Tekakwitha was first exposed to Jesuit missionaries as a young girl, but did not receive any Christian teachings until several years later. She was baptized in 1676, and given the “Christian name of Catherine” (Shoemaker 53). Tekakwitha fled her home village due to harassment by the non-Christian majority, and went to Kahnawake, which had become a “haven from the alcohol-induced violence plaguing Iroquois villages in the 1600s” (Shoemaker 53).
While at Kahnawake, Tekakwitha became even more a devout Christian; she “built her own shrine in the woods and prayed to it,” forgoing meat so as not to be away from daily devotions (Shoemaker 54). Once again, Tekakwitha experienced family and tribal pressure to marry, which was necessary for a woman who depends upon a man for meat and clothing. But Tekakwitha refused, saying she could “have no other spouse but Jesus Christ” (Shoemaker 54).
Thereafter, Tekakwitha and another woman, Marie Therese, formed a bond to serve Christ and model their lives after the Catholic nuns. They adhered to the vows of chastity and penitence, routinely practicing self-mortification. Shoemaker asserts that the conversion of many Indians was relatively easy since many of the Christian tenets are similar to traditional Iroquois beliefs. However that may be, Tekakwitha experienced hardships from many of her fellow tribal members due to her conversion, but she remained faithful to her adopted religious beliefs.

The number one thing you need to get from this article is this. Significant increases in the muscular size of any particular muscle group, can not be achieved without similar increases throughout the entire body. Any and all exercise performed has an indirect effect on all the body’s subsystems and muscular structures.
An exercise which primarily involves the legs, produces to varying degrees, muscle growth in all other muscles throughout the body. The relative size of the muscles involved largely determines how great the indirect effect will be. The larger the muscle group, the greater the overall indirect effect on other body parts. Got it. Good
This indirect effect is the result of intensity of effort. If the intensity is low, indirect muscle growth is minimal. If the intensity is high, indirect muscle growth is absolutely incredible. But remember, these muscle gains are not stimulated through the quantity of exercise performed, but from the overall intensity of effort.
Maximizing intensity of effort requires the same style of training for absolutely everyone. That mean you and me. However, individual performance is relative. For example. while the performance of a 100 pound bench press may involve a high level of intensity for one person, a considerably stronger trainee could perform the same exercise with a much lower intensity. But as we now know beyond a shadow of doubt. High levels of intensity must be reached, before an increase in muscle size will be produced. If you train below that particular level, your muscle gains will be practically non-existent.
Although the level of intensity required to produce maximum muscle gains may actually be below maximum intensity, determining exactly when that point has been reached during your workouts is near impossible. Even if the required intensity for maximum muscle gains could be converted into a percentage, you wouldn’t be unable to determine accurately when that exact level is reached during an exercise. Working at one hundred percent, maximum intensity of effort guarantees that this level is always achieved, regardless of whether it is an actual requirement or not. Are you following me?
Look. If maximum muscle gains is your goal, working out with anything less than one hundred percent intensity of effort is not going to cut it. In fact, it’s almost a complete waste of time. Regardless of the actual intensity of effort required, working the largest of muscle groups will produce incredible muscle growth all over the entire body.
Although we may not be entirely sure why, we do know that without a doubt, it does happen. For the best possible muscular gains, the major muscular structures should be trained intensely. If the exercise is intense, brief and infrequent, maximum gains will be achieved. As no muscle can be truly isolated from the body’s subsystems and all exercises have some degree of overall effect on the body, for the best possible muscle gains, only full body workouts should be performed.
As I has explained to you here. Split-routines are in fact physiologically impossible. A training program which ’splits’ the body into muscle groups, doesn’t permit sufficient recovery time for the body overall. As a result, split training programs do not produce maximum possible muscle gains. In almost all cases, they actually prevent them. No exceptions.

Those who pride themselves on their honesty should also concern themselves with this principle: The effectiveness of honesty depends on a person’s willingness to face the truth, which may conflict with this person’s desires and provoke denial.
In such a case, how can one promote this willingness, despite this conflict? The answer to this question could prove useful to anyone who seeks to be effectively honest with people in denial. Ultimately, it could benefit these people, whose denial is contrary to their best interest. I go on the assumption that truth, or the conformity of thought to reality, is the sine qua non of vital efficacy. Health, pleasure, successful careers, and harmonious relationships require that we know the needs and capabilities of our nature, and the workings of the world. The absence of this knowledge leads to accidents, illness, suffering, failure, and death. Therefore, the first object of our desires should be truth, or the knowledge of ourselves and the world around us. Why then are people often unwilling to face it?
I believe there are two reasons for this unwillingness. Firstly, the desire to know the truth, which originates in the desire to live happily, spontaneously degenerates into the desire to be right, to avoid the insecurity and shame associated with error and ignorance, and also to avoid the effort to learn. Thus fear, pride, and laziness are obstacles to the pursuit of truth and happiness. People are unlikely to admit they are wrong when they are, unless they possess courage and humility. Whoever takes their good to heart should help them develop these virtues.
Secondly, the truth may be known from experience about a happy way of life. The desire to know the truth then turns into the desire to see the truth last. Mental inertia becomes the law, proportional to the force of attraction exerted on the mind by this happy way of life. Any upheaval that breaks the status quo is denied: “I cannot believe it; this cannot be happening.” Reality is deemed unreal because it no longer tallies with the desired truth. Denial can therefore be regarded as a deviant process that conforms facts to ideas, instead of the opposite. Reason is overthrown and emotions reign, as one strives to prove reality wrong to spare oneself the loss of a happy way of life and the pursuit of another, this loss and this pursuit being associated with grief, strain, and doubt, or even despair.
To help a person acknowledge an undesired truth about a radical change in reality, one has to couple honesty with wisdom to heighten this person’s awareness of the human capacity for adaptation. This capacity is best illustrated by the example of people who have suffered a terrible misfortune and progressively discovered a new outlook and a new happiness, more enlightened and satisfying than the old ones. In addition, one has to stimulate the will of this person, who is left with a formidable challenge: to start her or his life over. Lastly, this heightened awareness and this stimulated will may weaken at times, calling for reinforcement. All in all, against the unwillingness to face the truth, the effectiveness of honesty is always difficult and uncertain.

The Rooster is traditionally considered to be a favourable sign. His crow signals the break of dawn and the beginning of a fresh start, driving away the ghosts and evil spirits of the night. He is the only creature of the Chinese zodiac with wings and, as such, is regarded as the messenger that connects the two worlds of heaven and earth.
He has five virtues: knowledge, military expertise, courage, benevolence and credibility. His crest, `kwan”, means coronet, and represents the pen, the symbol of knowledge, while his claw symbolises the sword of military skills. When confronted by an enemy, the courageous Rooster fights till the end without retreat. When he finds food he shares it to show his benevolence and he demonstrates his credibility by never failing to crow on time.
2005 is the year of the Green Wooden Rooster. Green is the colour of hope, of Spring, and of Youth, so this year will be exceptionally good for the application of scientific achievements to production and new creative work. Wood symbolises family values and astrologers say the family will constitute an integral part of everyone”s life this year. Practicality, business attitude and diligence will be valued highly and those who pay attention to even the slightest details will achieve remarkable heights
The Rooster is a very fertile bird, so tradition tells us that this will be the best time to find your true love and form a family of your own. Roosters are also communal creatures so 2005 promises to be a lucky one for joint ventures. Astrology suggests we should sign as many business contracts as possible and form new partnerships in the upcoming year. However, no matter the business, family interests should always come first!
The Rooster Person. Those born in rooster years are described as having a strong desire to be constantly at the centre of attention. Cheery, sharp and humorous, the magnificent Rooster will never pass up an opportunity to recount his adventures and specify his accomplishments. He is a flamboyant personality, feisty and obstinate, the proud extrovert who loves to strut his stuff. Outwardly confident, the Rooster is also a trustworthy, hardworking individual who speaks frankly with no qualms or reservations.
Roosters are very loyal. They detest dishonesty or mockery of any sort for they are direct and honest people who expect those around them to be the same. Roosters are happiest when they are surrounded by others, at a small party or a large social gathering, in some way enjoying the spotlight. A Rooster will either like you, or he won’t - there’s no middle road. Although they are vocal with opinions and ideas, Roosters are pretty tight-lipped about their personal emotions and feelings and rarely wear their hearts on their sleeves. They are intensely private people.
East meets West
The upfront Aries Rooster is blunt, yet witty, unafraid of criticism and fond of sharing his points of view. Honest and trustworthy, this Rooster expects the same of others.
The hard-working Taurus Rooster is motivated, industrious and reliable and finishes what he starts, but must learn to relax more.
The sharp-minded Gemini Rooster is an efficient organiser who loves a good, solid debate, often on political or environmental issues.
The loving Cancer Rooster is a kindly and sweet individual who enjoys the company of friends, family and animal companions. But beware if he shows his claws!
The flamboyant Leo Rooster is full of energy and charisma but also deeply sincere and compassionate.
The logical Virgo Rooster, although extremely efficient at completing tasks too difficult for others, may sometimes be too detail-oriented.
The organised Libra Rooster is sophisticated and urbane, admired for his good taste and attractive appearance.
The determined Scorpio Rooster is a motivated goal-setter who hides his deep emotions.
The open-hearted Sagittiraius Rooster is a likeable free spirit, honest and down to earth with a tendency to sometimes put his foot in his mouth.
The practical Capricorn Rooster wants to succeed, and his intellect and drive make him want to be in charge.
The non-conformist Aquarius Rooster is creative and clever but needs motivation.
The sensitive Pisces Rooster is just as stubborn, yet not as blunt as other Roosters. He considers the feelings of others and avoids confrontation or discord.
Whatever Rooster you may be, whatever animal of the Chinese zodiac you are, this year of 2005 will bring creativity, diligence and family strengths to the fore. The official day of the New Year is 9 February, the Tiger month, make sure you wear something green and don’t, whatever you do, eat fowl on that day.

A look at how digital clocks show synchronies as the new energy become more integrated
I would like to start with the understanding that all things are within me and I am becoming aware on a daily basis that this is so.
I am becoming aware of spirit round me, and the intelligence that this spiritual energy displays. For example, my eyes keep being drawn towards digital clocks to check the time. The numbers on the clock usually form an interesting pattern, like I had a 13:13, 18:18 and a 22:22.
I have also found that spirit can multiply for example I’ve had 06:18 and divide 04:21 where 2 was half four and 1 was half 2. You may think that this is a coincidence, but it is happening many times a day.
In the car I have two digital clocks with slightly different times, one on the dashboard and the other on the radio, and my attention is drawn to the one with an interesting number for me to look at.
Driving along the road yesterday, I left the house and after I had gone about a mile I got inspired to set the trip mile counter, only thinking myself that I would like to check the mileage to where I was going about 20 miles away.
Well just after I got half way there, you can imagine my surprise when I looked at the dashboard and saw the clock at 11.11 and the trip counter at 11.1 miles. I could only admire spirit for organising this event to happen.
How does spirit do this?
I have been wondering this myself for the last few days. Quite often spirit wakes me up in the night to look at the clock. An interesting pattern may appear. For example 5:05 or 6:26 where the two end figures are the same with a different centre figure.
The implications of this are quite interesting. It means that spirits have eyes to see and the intelligence to understand the meaning of the number and which clock has the right numbers. The question is, is it a spirit guide that looks like me with a full body? Which may coexist in the same space and time as me; or is it the impulses of energy themselves that are intelligent?
Like the individual photons of light? This I still have to figure out. I feel both present. I feel the spirit guides coexisting with me and in me. I feel the individual grains of energy on many different levels of my body and consciousness. I feel the consciousness of each cell, each molecule, each atom and each photon of light. I feel the field of energy like an electro magnetic field or aura at each level of my existence. I can move my awareness to each level; I can come out of myself into the field and look back and change my perspective.
What is spirit trying to tell me?
I am a firm believer that these energy fields connect everything in the universe, that the universal energy is involved on every level and in every decision. I am a firm believer that the mind does have free will. The field of energy puts forward a suggestion for an idea, maybe on one level of the mind, body or emotions. But it is the human brain that connects all these levels together and has the knowledge and experience to balance all the levels and make an intelligent decision, or not, depending on what that person decided he wants to create at that moment in time.
When the decision is made the whole of the universal energy rebalances itself and sets the conditions to fulfil that decision.
But it is this understanding that each impulse of energy is intelligent and seems to have eyes to see and a brain to understand that I am finding so fascinating. We all talk about angels, guardian angels and helpers.
Are these impulses of energy the angels?
Size has nothing to do with it. It is difficult to see the difference between the structures of one atom and that of our solar system. The atom has a positive electrical charge in the centre and negative electrons circling around. We have the sun, which you could say is positively charged as it always radiates energy and the planets are negatively charged as they receive the energy from the sun. One could be the same as the other just at a different scale.
